Three people hospitalized after multi-car and bicycle crash on West Ridge and Dewey
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A crash at the intersection of Dewey Avenue and West Ridge Road on Sunday night sent three people to the hospital.
One person was arrested for a DWI after the crash.
The Rochester Police Department responded at 8:30 p.m. and said the crash involved four cars and a bicycle. One car was heading westbound on West Ridge Road when it ran a red light at the intersection, colliding with another car. The collision caused the car that ran the red light to strike a building and the other car to strike a bicyclist riding on the shoulder of Dewey Ave.
After the initial crash, a third car rear-ended another car near the intersection. RPD said the driver of the third car was tested and arrested for a DWI. The driver who police say ran the red light got multiple traffic citations.
Just after 8:20pm on Sunday, Rochester Police Officers responded to the intersection of Dewey Avenue and West Ridge Road for the report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries. It was determined there was a total of four motor vehicles and one bicyclist involved in the accident. Vehicle #1 was driven by a 36-year-old female, city resident was westbound on West Ridge Road crossing Dewey Avenue when she ran a red light, and hit vehicle #2 driven by a 19-year-old male, city resident, which was northbound on Dewey Ave. The accident sent Vehicle #1 into a building in the 400 Block of West Ridge Road, and Vehicle 2 into a bicyclist, who was on the shoulder of Dewey Ave. The bicyclist is a 57-year-old male, city resident.
Police said that there were no serious injuries, but three of the people involved had minor complaints of pain and were taken to Strong Hospital by ambulance. The intersection has since reopened.
