Man faces weapon and drug charges after assault on Thomas Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is facing charges after Rochester Police say they found him with an illegal gun and suspected narcotics while investigating an assault.
Officers responded to Thomas Street near Alphonse Street around 5 p.m. on Friday for the report of shots fired. Officers didn’t find anyone with gunshot wounds but learned that a 32-year-old man was injured in that area with a possible graze wound.
Officers say they found a 22-year-old city resident around Hudson Avenue who matched the description of one person involved in the incident. RPD says the man, Savion Chappell, had a loaded and defaced 9mm handgun on him.
Chappell is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail.
