Irondequoit Police Department remembers captain who died in crash

The day's major News events, business reports, sports updates, Rochester area weather information and tomorrow's forecast are presented by the News10NBC Team.

NORTH CAROLINA — The Irondequoit Police Department is remembering the service of Retired Captain Mark Bonsignore, who died in a motorcycle crash in North Carolina on Saturday.

The driver who hit him on his motorcycle is charged with driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle. News10NBC spoke with one of Captain Bonsignore’s colleagues who worked with him until he retired in 2007.

“I don’t think there was ever a time that I wasn’t in the building that he didn’t have a smile on his face and say, hey, how’s your family? It didn’t matter what his rank was. He would always go out of his way for you,” his colleague said.

His colleague said he last spoke to Captain Bonsignore back in September when he came to get recertified.

“He had moved down to North Carolina to be closer to his daughter and his grandkids. And he was really enjoying his retirement. Know that you left a special place here at the Irondequoit Police Department. You’re always being our thoughts and prayers. And you may not be here now, but know that the Irondequoit Police Department will never forget your service,” he said.
