ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rochester Police say that on Monday at 12:54 p.m. an apparent drive-by shooting happened in front of 72 St. Paul Street.

An unknown number of suspects fired several rounds from a car and two people that are not believed to be involved were hit.

Police say the victims, a man, 32, was shot in his lower extremity and has injuries that are not life-threatening. The second victim, a man, 44, was shot in his upper body and suffers from possible life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to Strong Hospital by ambulance.

Officers who were in the area helped the victims while additional officers pursued a vehicle that was possibly involved.

This police pursuit ended at a location in the North West area of the city when police saw someone get out of the car and run away. One person was taken into custody and is being detained during the investigation.

Police say this is an active crime scene and investigation, so certain details are being withheld.

In response to the shootings, RPD says they will step up patrols in the area.

In addition, through the City’s Gun Violence State of Emergency, Mayor Evans issued the closure of a store at 72 St. Paul Street. The City believes the store is a significant contributing factor to the problems in the neighborhood. The closure order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice.
