ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bingo, Nerf, and Lite-Brite are some of the toys being considered for The Strong’s 2022 National Toy Hall of Fame.
The hall of fame based in Rochester is inducting three new toys this fall and The Strong National Museum of Play announced its 12 finalists on Wednesday. The top-three toys are decided by a vote from the public and by a committee of experts on toys.
The finalists are:
- Bingo
- Breyer Horses
- Catan
- Lite-Brite
- Nerf Toys
- Masters of the Universe
- Piñata
- Phase 10
- Pound Puppies
- Rack-O
- Spirograph
- Top.
You can vote for your favorite toy on The Strong’s website from September 14 through 21. The public will act as one member of the 23-member committee that makes the final decision.
Christopher Bensch, vice president for The Strong, said that the 12 nominations span the history of play.
“The top is as old as civilization itself and bingo has been played in some form for hundreds of years,” Bensch said. “Masters of the Universe and Pound Puppies became classics in the 1980s, but they too have greatly influenced the world of play. All 12 of these toys have what it takes to be contenders for the class of 2022.”
Strong Museum will announce the inductees on Thursday, November 10. Since the founding of the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998, there have been 77 inductees including LEGO, Lincoln Logs, Lionel Trains, and Crayola Crayons.
