‘You’ve got to say something’: Father of woman killed in Maplewood Park shooting raising money for reward
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Friday will be a month since the mass shooting in Maplewood Park that killed two women — Phylicia Council and Tyasia Manning — and wounded seven others.
While police work to find the shooters involved, Council’s father is raising funds for a reward for anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest. This is in addition to the reward offered by Crime Stoppers.
Alex Reese Council told News10NBC that there’s a big difference between “snitching” and doing the right thing.
“If you see something, you’ve got to say something. Because that’s the only way this is gonna stop,” Council said. “Those cowards, those killers, they need to be caught. Because they did a crime. They committed a murder, And justice needs to be brought to them for it. That cannot just slip by. As long as I’m breathing, it won’t slip by.”
He urged anyone who thinks they saw or heard anything relevant — no matter hos small it may seem — to report it to the Rochester Police Department. He says “it may be the missing piece to the police doing their job.”
Council is raising funds for the reward on GoFundMe at the “Forever Phe” page — he said his daughter’s nickname was “Phe-Phe.” The page had logged $2,695 in donations as of Tuesday night; Council hopes to be able to raise $10,000 for the reward.
Phylicia Council, 33, worked with special needs children at a Hillside group home for ten years. Her father said the two were very close — some people called her his twin, he said.
“It hurts me so bad because she was not only my daughter, but she had a whole life ahead of her, and it was snatched away by some cowards. By some punks. By some straight-up don’t-care-about-life. So I ask people to speak up and say something. Because if you don’t say something, ain’t nothing gonna get done,” he said.
