Fairy Godmothers aiming to provide affordable prom outfits to local students
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Most young girls look forward to the day they get to pick out a pretty dress and get dolled up for their prom, but that process can be pricey. One organization in Rochester hopes to provide prom outfits without the hefty price tag.
Fairy Godmothers of Rochester is on a mission to give the princess-like feeling to young women in the area headed to their high school proms. Through donations, they’re able to sell gently used dresses and accessories for an affordable price during their annual “Prom Fairs” — dresses selling for $5, and accessories for $1 each. They accept cash and Venmo.
The organization hosted its first Prom Fair of the season on March 2. If you weren’t able to stop by , they have more Prom Fairs running throughout the month of March:
- March 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- March 13, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- March 16, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- March 20, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- March 23, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- March 27, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- March 30, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The fairs are at Marketplace Mall, through the north entrance near Spencer’s Gifts. Buyers must be an enrolled junior or senior student actively attending a local high school who present a financial need. To purchase a prom outfit you’ll need a valid school ID or a letter from a guidance counselor on a school letterhead.
