Passer-by alerts Fairport Fire Department to chimney fire on Carter Road

FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Fire crews in Fairport battled a chimney fire on Christmas Day on Carter Road.

Firefighters arrived at a home around 8:45 p.m. after a passerby reported seeing flames coming from the top of the chimney. The people inside the home got out safely before fire crews got there.

The fire department quickly extinguished the flames, ensuring the safety of everyone inside the house.

Firefighters determined that the fire was accidental, caused by a build-up in the chimney.
