ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC celebrates Black History Month by honoring the people and places that have paved the way for many in the Rochester area.
Bill Johnson was Rochester’s first African American mayor. He served the Flower City for three terms from 1994 until 2005.
Before that, Johnson was the president and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester for more than 20 years, fighting for education, family services, and affordable housing.
In 2018, Mayor Lovely Warren renamed the Port of Rochester Terminal Building as the William A. Johnson Terminal Building at the Port of Rochester in his honor.
