Funeral for Spencerport teen killed in crash is Monday
PARMA, N.Y. — The funeral for Maria Eichas, the 18-year-old Spencerport teen killed in a crash in Parma, is on Monday morning.
It will take place at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on East Avenue at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking people to donate to a charity close to their heart. The calling hours were on Sunday afternoon.
Eichas, a 2023 graduate of Spencerport High School, died at the scene of the crash the morning of Sunday, June 2. Another car slammed into the back of the car that Eichas was driving, forcing the car off Burritt Road and into a field, ultimately crashing into a tree. A passenger in her car was injured and taken to the hospital.
The other driver, Alexander Hackett, is charged with vehicular manslaughter. Court paperwork says Hackett admitted to drinking four beers before getting behind the wheel. Hackett has been in the Monroe County Jail since his arraignment on Sunday on $40,000 bail.
Eichas was a singer in a band called Moxxie. Members of the Spencerport Central School District wore blue and gold and Rangers attire on Wednesday in her memory. A GoFundMe to cover Eichas’ funeral expenses and other unexpected costs has over $50,000. The page says Eichas was an amazing teammate and had a deep love for music. The page says:
“More than her talents, it was Maria’s loving personality that truly made her shine. She had an extraordinary ability to brighten any room with her presence. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support made her a cherished friend to many. Maria was deeply committed to her community, always eager to lend a helping hand and spread joy wherever she went.”
