Trump names J.D. Vance as running mate

MILWAUKEE, WIS. — Donald Trump has made his decision on his vice presidential pick.

U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio will join the former president’s ticket.

He beat out North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who were reportedly on Trump’s short list.

Vance rose to prominence with his memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” about growing up in Appalachia. Last year, he was elected a U.S. senator.

Trump made the announcement on the first day of the Republican National Convention.

This comes two days after an assassination attempt on the former president at a rally in Butler, Penn.
