Man found dead with gunshot wound in middle of street near School 50 in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, police were called to Rau Street by School 50 for a person down in the middle of the street.
Police found a 20-year-old man lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rochester Police Major Crimes Unit Capt. Frank Umbrino said neighbors heard gunshots and cars driving by found the man in the street and called 911.
Capt. Umbrino said there were still some students in School 50 at the time, but none of the students were in danger at any time. He does not know if the students saw the victim in the street. He said the school will offer help to students and staff in distress.
The victim has not been positively identified yet.
There are no suspects in custody.
Police are continuing to investigate and will review cameras in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
