Police: Man shoots at patrol cars during in Greece neighborhood

GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Greece man is facing charges after police say he shot at police cars Thursday night on a residential street off of English Road.

The incident started at around 10 p.m. with a family trouble call from the 200 block of Judy Ann Drive, police say.

When officers arrived, they say they learned the man involved had access to a rifle. After speaking with him on the phone, they learned he was agitated.

Police say they were speaking with family members when shots were fired at their patrol cars from the home, so they secured the area and called for backup.

Members of the Greece Police Department’s SWAT team, Monroe County’s Forensic Intervention Team (FIT), and hostage negotiators, and joined the response. Negotiators were able to get the man to start talking, and convinced him to leave the house so that officers were able to take him into custody.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant at the home and recovered the rifle as well as additional ammunition.

Crime scene technicians found at least one marked Greece Police Department patrol car was hit by bullets.

Joseph Bartolone, 51, was charged with attempted aggravated assault of a police officer with a deadly weapon, second degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree reckless endangerment, and second degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Greece Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail. His bail was set at $250 thousand cash, $500 thousand bond, or $750 non-secure bond.

Police say they are still investigating and expect to release more information on this case in the future.
