ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— This story takes us to Webster and the Xerox campus.
There’s some five million square feet of space. Has some of that been sold? Yes, at least a big chunk of it anyway.
A viewer heard some talk about it and reached out to News10NBC’s Brennan Somers saying: I’m hearing a new company is buying pieces of the Xerox Webster property… something to do with plastics. Do you know what’s going on?
There is a company working to move in. It’s buying multiple buildings.
The business is Tessy Plastics, headquartered in Skaneateles. It’s a global contract manufacturer. What exactly does it make? Somers was told it’s split about 70/30 between medical and pharmaceutical products plus items for the consumer market. Back in late October, Tessy announced it’s buying three buildings on the Webster Xerox campus.
It hopes to close on the deal by the end of this year.
A statement from the company reads "Tessy plans to lease a portion of the purchased area in Webster to third party tenants and utilize the remainder as warehouse space. This is with the assumption that the buildings will later turn into full-scale production plants."
In total, the three buildings add up to about 1.5 million square feet. The biggest is 750,000 square feet. That’s about 13 football fields.
Tessy couldn’t give Somers any specifics on the products that will eventually come out of here but we know part of its business transformed to help fight the pandemic. It started making PPE (face shields) and even COVID test kits in Auburn.
How about jobs?
The company didn’t say when Somers reached out. He also spoke with the town supervisor about the move. Tom Flaherty said he never got a ballpark total on expected jobs but he’s glad to see a new company moving to town.
Tessy said it will have more on the jobs front in early 2022.
