Mt. Read Blvd. open after truck crashes into bridge
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Mt. Read Boulevard is open between Ridge Road and Ridgeway Avenue after a crash Tuesday morning.
Police say a “roll-off dumpster type” truck was stuck in an upward position, and crashed into a pedestrian bridge on Mt. Read, causing a portion of the bridge to come tumbling down.
Officials say a blue Kia was driving behind the truck and crashed into fallen debris.
The cause of the crash is unclear.
“Part of looking into what occurred here, the investigation in it is, why was this truck in the up position? Why was it at a level that could strike the bridge? And what caused the bridge to collapse,” said RPD Captain Greg Bello at the scene.
Both the Kia driver and truck driver were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
