ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Governor Kathy Hochul was in Rochester Friday, and she answered some of our questions about the current rise in gun violence, and homicides in the city. News10NBC met with her at the OFC Creations Theater.
Governor Hochul says her number one priority is to have more officers on Rochester’s streets to combat gun violence. With 65 homicides already recorded this year, Hochul says public safety her main goal. She tells us that she’s in constant contact with Mayor Malik Evans, Rochester Police Chief Dave Smith, and other law enforcement agencies.
She says the State is offering support, and we asked her if there are more resources we could get from Albany.
“What does that support look like? First of all it’s putting more boots on the ground, letting them know that we have our state police resources to help them with the patrolling. This is one of the areas where we can be helpful, and we’ll do more if requested.” said Hochul.
