State Police: Man charged with manslaughter after car rolls over, crashes into utility pole near 490 exit at Culver Road
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two people are dead and the driver was arrested after a car crashed into a fence and rolled over on I-490 at Culver Road.
New York State Police say four people were inside the car when it crashed just after 9 a.m. on Friday. The fourth person was taken to Strong Hospital for treatment.
NYSP said the car hit a barrier as it was exiting 490, rolled multiple times, and crashed into a utility pole. 18-year-old Skylar Swift died at the scene, and Aleci Lopez, 23, died at Strong Memorial Hospital. The third passenger, Alexandrea Rodriguez, 19, was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
News10NBC’s crew at the scene saw at least a dozen fire officials surround the car.
State Police said the driver, Christopher Long Jr., resisted troopers while they were trying to arrest him. Sgt. Buchholz said they were unsure if the driver was injured in the crash. Long has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in the second degree. He was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
News10NBC’s Berkeley Brean spoke with a man who saw it all unfold.
“He goes, ‘There are people in the car! People in the car! Gotta get them out! Gotta get them out,'” said the witness, Edward Yellin.
Yellina also saw the driver get arrested at the scene.
“And they approached him, surrounded him, tried to calm him down,” explained Yellin. “He became increasingly agitated so they put him on the ground basically to handcuff him to restrain him. And he was still resisting so they tased him.”
State Police are asking anyone with video or information about the crash to call them at 398-4100.
