ROCHESTER, N.Y. — This Saturday, you can safely dispose of any unwanted or unused prescription medications.
The Prescription Drug Take Back event is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at URMC on Elmwood Avenue, near the intersection with Kendrick Road. This is in collaboration with State Police and UR surgeons.
You can also get hands-on education about the variety and volume of drugs that accumulate after surgery, injury or illness.
“Opioids can actually play an important role in helping to manage pain, but it’s these unused pills that are improperly stored that can be a gateway to potential use or abuse,” said Dr. Alexa Melucci, research resident at the URMC General Surgery Residency Program.
Free lunch will be provided for the first 500 people who show up.
