Seven college students advance their media careers in annual Tom Hope Media Scholar Portfolio Review
VICTOR, N.Y. — The annual Tom Hope Media Scholar Portfolio Review took place Saturday in Victor, offering college students a chance to advance their media careers.
Seven students, nominated by faculty, participated in the event. They met with media professionals who critiqued their video work and provided valuable guidance.
Students who complete the review will be named Tom Hope Media Scholars and will receive a cash reward to support their career development.
Some previous Tom Hope Media Scholars have included Cory Gershon, Video Production Manager for the New York Rangers and Madison Square Garden Productions and Scott Vosbury, who has won an Academy Award for his work on the movie “The Life of Pi.”
This year’s nominees include:
- Ben Burggraaff, Finger Lakes Community College.
- Tiago Davies, University of Rochester.
- Colin O’ Brien, Rochester Institute of Technology.
- Emma Sternberg, Genesee Community College.
- Colby Upham, Monroe Community College.
- Kydian Suarez, St. John Fisher University.
- Hunter Wright, SUNY Brockport.
Awards will be presented at a ceremony on April 8 at I-Square in Irondequoit.
This program is named in honor of the late media icon Tom Hope, who was a combat photographer at the Battle of the Bulge, an advisor to filmmakers at Eastman Kodak and a mentor to aspiring media professionals.
